Our Friday morning meeting was filled with inspiration, youthful energy, and a powerful reminder of why Rotary's mission to eradicate polio remains so important.
Celebrating Our Student of the Month
We were delighted to welcome Marley, our York Middle School Student of the Month, along with her family and school representatives. Nominated by teacher Kelly Ridley, Marley was recognized for her outstanding work ethic, love of reading, positive attitude, and the meaningful friendships she has built. Congratulations, Marley!
York High School Interact – Making a Difference!
It was wonderful to welcome members of the York High School Interact Club, which now boasts 62 students! Claire shared some of their impressive community service efforts, including supporting local fundraisers, collecting food donations, and planning a York-themed tree for the Festival for Fostering.
Perhaps most heartwarming was their decision to provide $500 in grocery and gas gift cards to each of two local families in need. What a wonderful example of Service Above Self!
A Powerful Story of Courage and Perseverance
Our guest speaker, Douglas Dodd, shared the remarkable story of his father, who contracted polio in 1955 and spent the next 21 years living with paralysis and relying on respiratory equipment, including an iron lung.
Douglas was just five years old when his family's life changed forever. Despite extraordinary challenges, his father remained a source of strength, wisdom, and inspiration to Douglas and his three sisters.
Douglas captured these memories in his book, Our Father Who Art in an Iron Lung, a heartfelt story of courage, perseverance, family, and the strength of the human spirit.
His presentation was especially meaningful as Rotary continues its worldwide efforts to eradicate polio. This week's Kindness Dollars were fittingly dedicated to PolioPlus.
