🌟 Rotary Recap – January 9, 2026
York Rotary Club | First Meeting of 2026
The York Rotary Club kicked off 2026 with warmth, reflection, and connection at our January 9 meeting.

Acting President Susan opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and the Rotary Six Way Test, setting a thoughtful tone for the new year. She reminded members that first-quarter invoices have been sent and reflect the updated amount of $130 per quarter.

Susan acknowledged this meeting as a new beginning—sharing reflections from her calendar reminding us to stay connected with groups that help us bond with others and maybe even wake up a little earlier to make the most of each day.

Susan encouraged members to reach out to Gail Morse, who is currently navigating medical challenges.

Announcements & Upcoming Events

Happy Dollars & Gratitude
Happy Dollars were overflowing with gratitude and life updates:
  • Dinon celebrated the success of Peas and Carrots, which exceeded his personal goal with over 2,000 pounds (1 ton!) of food collected.
  • Heather shared her thankfulness regarding spending 12-days recently in Greece with her family and apologized for likely not being in attendance for the next couple of weeks due to  her work on the budget committee.
  • Members shared joys and challenges involving family, health, travel, and appreciation for the Rotary community.
  • Marilyn spoke powerfully about gratitude, healing, freedom, and the support she’s felt through York Rotary — especially meaningful as she reflected on both personal health and broader concerns in the world.
  • Thanks were shared for community support, construction help, warmer weather, and simply making it through the holidays together.
Other club news:
  • Susan shared that Wade Fox has stepped away from Rotary due to other commitments.
  • Assistant Governor Pam Gray shared that Rob Horowitz is retiring and moving back to the area.
Fortune Cookies & New Connections
Adding a fun twist to the meeting (thanks to Susans and Greenleaves!), members opened fortune cookies that sparked table conversations and reflection. Messages ranged from “Kindness is a treasure that enriches your heart” to “A period of healing is coming your way.”
Table discussions led to meaningful stories:
  • Susan shared her journey of attending YCCC — which sparked the great suggestion of starting a Rotaract Club.
  • Marilyn reflected on how Rotary helped her find community when she first moved to York.
  • Members talked about goals, New Year’s resolutions, taking risks, healing, and the importance of simply talking to people — whether at Hannaford, Greenleaves, or around our Rotary tables.
The meeting closed with a shared reminder for 2026:

Make new connections. Be the good.

The meeting adjourned at 8:26 AM.
