Service Project Update:
Darcy announced that she and Cindy will be meeting with Whitney from Seacoast Fridge to explore partnership opportunities and potentially launch a new local service project.
Guest Speaker – David Daigler, Maine Community College System
David shared an insightful look into the Maine Community College System, which offers an affordable education option at less than $4,300 per year.
Key Facts:
7 colleges | 18:1 student-to-faculty ratio | 96% Maine residents
81% of programs are in occupational and technical fields
42% of students are first-generation college attendees
30% are over the age of 25
Technology skills are now central to all programs
Maine faces a shrinking and aging workforce, making skilled training more essential than ever
Programs & Solutions:
Dual enrollment and college-level courses for high school students
Close collaboration with employers to design training programs that lead directly to employment
Workforce training for both new and existing employees
Degree-completion partnerships with universities
Free tuition program (2020–2025 high school grads, if enrolled within 2 years)
Transfer ME program helps students seamlessly transition from community college to the University of Maine
Takeaway:
Community colleges in Maine are not only about higher education—they are a key driver of workforce readiness and economic growth, bridging the gap between students, employers, and communities.
