If you weren’t here last week, here’s what you missed!

J $’s:  Melanie Ladd gave a happy dollar for the York Schools’ mentoring program and expressed her need for 5 male mentors; Ben Lovell was happy that his son was home on fall break and Ben is also happy that his pup is finally house broken (now it’s time for the new hard wood floors to go in!); Andy Binger was happy that Tom Spencer was able to have such a good time during his brief visit back home.  Tom left to return to Iraq on Thursday the 14th; Ray DeFeo was happy the York girls are in the field hockey playoffs; Dave McElwain was sad about the Sox (As of this writing, they have won 3 games in a row to even the series and force Game 7.  What a difference a week makes!  By the time you read this, Dave will hopefully have a happy dollar because the Sox are in the World Series!)

Steve Pelletier won the raffle and the rest of us lost.  Steve was gracious enough to use his winnings to buy popcorn from the Cub Scouts to be sent to the troops. (See related story below.)

Zach and Nate Bald were on hand representing Cub Scout Pack 301.  They sold popcorn that was later going to be sent to the troops in Iraq.  Many Rotarians participated and the Scouts sold 23 cans of popcorn.  On Saturday, the Scouts also sold popcorn at Harvestfest.  Once again, they promoted the opportunity for people to purchase popcorn to be sent to the troops.  They also supplied note cards for people to write messages to the troops.  By the end of the day, the Scouts had sold another 50-60 cans of popcorn and collected lots of notes from people sending the troops their best.  That means York Rotary and the Scouts will be sending 75-80 cans of popcorn to the troops along with notes from people expressing our thanks, prayers and best wishes to the troops!  Way to go, everyone!!

The Club also sold chicken tenders at Harvestfest.  Paul Salacain has reported to me that the Club netted approximately $1,400 from the event.  Many thanks to all Rotarians who pitched in and helped out on Saturday.  Job well done!!

Also last week, our visiting exchange student, JT, spoke about her native India.  She spoke about the beauty of both the land and the people of her country.  Finally, Mary Andrews thanked the Club for its donation to the scholarship fund that was established in memory of her son and the personal support she has received from the Club.
