January 16, 2004 - Club Assembly
Birthdays: Fred Muehl, Steve Lapointe, Annette Fazio, Dick Mirick
Lates: D. McElwain, S. Jendzejec, B. Hayward, L. Prescott.
Happy Dollars:
- Loretta Prescott stated that the Union Congregational Church is doing a Superbowl sub sale. A happy $2.00 was given for this.
- Ray DeFeo stopped for a cup of coffee in Kittery and a man who will eventually visit York Rotary gave him a happy dollar.
- Jim Colson is happy that it is going to “warm up” as he will be spending three days camping in the White Mountains.
- Marco gave a happy $5.00 for the York Fire Department’s response to the tragedy at Fazios.
- Don McElwain asked Red Sox trivia - Nick Esasky. He then went on to explain that in January of 1971 when he was leaving Caribou, Maine in a plane, the pilot stated that it was –81 degrees with the wind chill.
- Doug Gray went up to Portland to begin the long process of learning how to lead. He is thinking up mottos for Rotary and was batting around, “Do the time without the crime.”
- Ben got called back for a second job interview!
- Steve Jendzejec’s daughter Cassie did great with her indoor track.
- Annette Fazio’s son has ventured out and is working in the world.
Raffle - #853 won by Steve LaPointe
Club Assembly -
- Secretary and Treasurer both on vacation to warm destinations.
- Steve Jendzejec has been in contact, via email, with Tom Spencer. He is freezing in Watertown, NY in preparation for the desert. Wendy, Tom’s wife, has supportive neighbors. So far, his 3 girls are doing okay. Mary will check with Dick Filitaz at the VFW regarding sending boxes over to Tom and his group during his work in Iraq.
- Please let Steve know if you don’t want your e-mail address sent to Trish at the District.
- On Saturday, March 27th, there is a Rotary leadership course at the Portsmouth Sheraton. Rotary will pay if anyone is interested in attending.
- Fundraising - the hot tub raffle will be held at the spring dance. Mandatory that 4 tickets, $25.00 each, be sold. Hoping that each person sells 8. Person will win either a hot tub or $5,000 cash. Spring dance tickets will be $50.00 per person. Dance is April 24th and is once again at the Portsmouth Sheraton. If anyone knows sponsors, please let Paul Salacain know.
- Stacie Kerrigan - stated that Whitney Sullivan is doing great in Austria. Her German is coming along great. Jessica Acosta will be going to Peru next year. Anyone who wants to host a girl for 3-4 months in spring of 2005, please let Stacie know.
- Refreshment stand and the move of the food pantry — Stacie will write a grant proposal to try to get a grant to help defray some of these costs.
- Steve got a bill for the windows - will check on the work and then send out the check.
- Have already set money for fuel assistance. Thinking of setting up an account with Dave Woods.
- Will be sending the letter out soon to tell people about What Rotary is and ask for donations.
- Loretta mentioned recycling toner.
- Discussed Paul Harris Fellow vs. Sustaining members—recommending giving $100.00 per member of the club –some of this $ could come from points.
- Stacie was presented with a disc with the pictures of her Paul Harris Award.
