MEETING/ SPEAKER;  Today’s guest speaker was Ann Washburn, Program Director of Junior Achievement in Maine.  Ann was glad to hear Melanie’s happy dollar about the York mentorship program because that is a big piece of JA, business leaders mentoring kids in business.  The goal of JA is to bring the economic value of business to education.  Northern York County has a very strong JA program and was ranked 3rd in the country last year.  The end result of JA is the business influence of JA on kids benefits the kids, the school system and the participating businesses.

Other notes from the meeting include:  Annette informed us that the York Food Pantry had been given approval to occupy the space under the strip mall on Long Sands Road (i.e. where Cook’s Hardware store used to be).  She gave us a warning order that they would be looking for help to build shelves, walls and to move the pantry  in the coming weeks.  Mary also updated the club on the Light the Nubble, this year the lighting will occur at 6 pm and all Mary wants from the club is cookies donated (we do not need to work the refreshment area.
