GUESTS: York High School Rotaract
HAPPY DOLLARS: Ray DeFeo was happy the high school field hockey won 1st playoff game. At the Harvest Fest chicken booth Loretta Prescott was happy to witness that health care providers do utilize the 5 second rule, Steve Jendzejec provided the proof (but who ate the chicken?) Another Harvest Fest happy dollar was from John Rainone appreciated everyone putting his daugther to work as the cashier. Jim Bartlett happy dollar drew a round of applause from the club as he saluted Mark Green’s professionalism during the recent selectmen meeting. Another happy dollar relating to the selectman came from Ed Kimball who said he was happy to start the rumor that Mike Palumbo was to resign. And Doug Gray added the last happy dollar for the selectman, he was happy that Torbet McDonald had finally made town cable TV entertaining. Rob Horowitz was happy that his daughter Emily was selected to Kid’s Cabinet in school. Ray Bald was happy that he was able to take 35 kids on a trip to the USS Constitution. Ross Thompson was happy that the Yankee’s had lost. Annette was happy to have missed the Harvest Fest because she went to NYC (again) to celebrate a 72nd birthday (didn’t catch who’s birthday it was because she was still talking in the New York minute and I missed it in the translation) Stacy Kerrigan thanked the club for the Rotarian support of the Gary Kerrigan Scholarship Fund @ York High School. Little Dave McElwain was happy that the Marlins were ahead in the series 3-2 and Jim Hager was happy that $900 was raised for the Food Pantry in a recent quilt sale.

MEETING/ SPEAKER; Today’s meeting we added two new members to the club, Mike Myers (who is starting off in good tradition-he was late to his 1st meeting as a member) and Al Goodrich – Welcome ! Today’s guest speaker was Tom Peaco, Executive Director for the Maine Make-A-Wish Chapter. Tom spoke to us about the history and mission of Make-A-Wish. Make-A-Wish started in 1980 in Phoenix, AZ with a 7 year-old boy who wanted to be a police officer when he grew up. This little boy had leukemia and his wish came true as a result of the Arizona State Police. From that experience Make-A-Wish began and over 100,000 wishes have been granted. In Maine there is a wish granted about every 5 days. In 2002 York County had 18 wishes granted, $104,000 expended to make wishes come true, however on $80,000 was raised, the desire is to close this gap. 40% of the wishes granted in Maine are from York and Cumberland Counties.
